yup, more costume stuff [Aug. 25th, 2009|06:00 pm]
Last night I made Erick's Inquisitor's staff. The 'star' is made entirely of brass and copper sheet then painted for a uniform colour, the spikes are mounted on brass filigree strip. The shaft is wood. The runes were taken from the Dark Heresy Inquisitor's Handbook.

I had a minor disaster while working on my backpack so as soon as I have strength back in my left hand I have to concentrate on getting the mockup done tonight.

almost... there... [Aug. 21st, 2009|06:09 pm]

A few touchups and still need to do the backpack but almost there with the Sister of Battle. Still working on Erick's Inquisitor too. Right now I expect to be done, excepting the weapons, mid next week. Erick is building the weapons out of wood, then we are going to work on painting and making holsters.

progress-ish [Aug. 9th, 2009|12:38 am]
Here are the boots and leg armor for the Sister. It's actually based on an image of a female Inquisitor with very Sister like armor whbich I posted previously. Since I am doing a Sister Superior, I need it to be more ornate and the Inquisitor's stuff is.

I am not 100% sure these are finished. The big black space just looks empty to me but if I had to wear these as is, I think they would be fine.

PAX costumes... again [Aug. 2nd, 2009|07:41 pm]
[feeling... | busy]

Erick's Inquisitorial Rosette:

I am making progress, but still have a long way to go. I usually work in a way such as I can get something completely done, then move onto the next thing. This time, however, I am having to work on lots of things a piece at a time which I do find to be a little frustrating. I like to be DONE with stuff so I can mark them off the list. Oh well. I hope after I do some errands Tuesday and get what I hope to be the last of the bits I can knock a few things out next week.

task mistress for the Sister [Jul. 11th, 2009|06:45 pm]
I still need to take inventory for Erick's Inquisitor. I am going to try and knock out as much of my Sister of Battle costume this coming week as I can so I can concentrate on him and the guns more.

I figured out how I am doing the robe, both for comfort and to limit bulk. I need to get lining fabric. The colour scheme for each order is very specific about such things and I intend to do this properly.

I feel like I need to carry documentation for all my choices kind of like doing serious SCA costuming. That way when someone gives me shit about my makeup, or a particular fiddly bit I can whip out my documentation and tell them to STFU. Yes I did find an official image of a sister with dark eyeshadow, the very red lipstick is actually common. Personally I think it makes sense, the stark makeup makes one more intimidating.

ANYWAY!

I should have all the leather I need. I can now get into size 8 leather pants, might actually need size 6 if I do lose the last few pounds but I can get into the corset so if I stay low 140's to upper 130's it's not the end of the word. Yes I would LOVE to be 135-130 for PAX but Sisters aren't skinny and I look pretty damn good in the pants with the corset now.

I need to get all my insignia together, make the shoulder armor, the robe, fix the wig up once the white hair gets here, make the shin guards (I am wearing my extra stompy New Rocks I put the skulls on), print out the temp tattoos for the face tat and finish the gauntlets.

Looking at others who have done this costume with any real effort and skill so far none are in the US. I think there was one US Sister which was really BAD. As in I could have thrown it together in a day or two bad.

My real concern is still the gun. I am not finding the stuff I need to make it easily and I REALLY don't want to have to paint a nerf gun that is close but not really right or make it out of cardboard which seems to be what most people do. Erick is making his bolt pistol out of wood, I need to do something similar for mine. I still can't settle on which I want: Plasma, Melta or Flamer. I don't want a bolt pistol because Erick will have one but we will see what happens. If he does a really good job on his I might just have him make it. I am going to have my hands full with everything else.

Sorry Quentin [Jun. 11th, 2007|07:11 pm]
[feeling... | creative]

Ok I did some work on Erick's Inquisitor coat today. I cut down some skull rivets to use as buttons. Here is the coat with them on and a close up of the rivet buttons. You can't really tell from the way it's hanging but the coat is quite full actually.

Obviously the coat is a LONG way from finished but this was a huge PITA and took almost two hours since I hade to cut the lower jaw off the rivets. Next step is to talk to Erick about what other detailing to do to it. I am trying to at least get his 40K outfit wearable by PAX so [info]larylich can drool on it in person Erick can show it off to the Warhammer guys who will be showing off the WAR MMO.

Yes I am wearing eye protection, a mask and gloves while cutting the metal.

sparks tickle [Jun. 8th, 2007|01:08 pm]
So I did a little work on the Warhammer 40K outfits today. Namely I cut down some pewter buttons to be 40K style skulls rather than the full skull. I am including a fuzzy picture of the before and after.

I then sewed some of the buttons onto Erick's new black satin ruffle-free pirate shirt. They are a little smaller than the original buttons that came on the shirt but seem to work just fine.

I'll try to get pictures of the modifications to some New Rock boots I did a while back soon. I basically replaced the round New Rock logo with skulls... of course.

I also need to spend some time cutting down skull rivets because we are going to need plenty of those!

MORE SKULLS FOR THE EMPEROR!!!
