I tried using 'Carmen' but the adventure involved gnomes and underpants and I just wasn't willing to deal with that. |

| steampunk circlet |
[Nov. 7th, 2009|09:47 pm] |

This circlet is made of brass, silver and Swarovski Heliotrope crystal.
What makes it steampunk? If you look closely there are small screws in among the crystals. For me steampunk is the blending of Victorian aesthetics with practical, mechanical, industrial and vintage sci-fi elements., as such this qualifies in my book. |

| low fat, healthy oven fried chicken |
[Nov. 7th, 2009|04:13 pm] |
One very large boneless, skinless chicken breast (just under a pound) cut into two or two smaller ones
2 egg whites
breading mix: 1/4 cup or so rolled oats 1/8 cup or so flax meal 1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs 1/8 cup paprika 1 tsp rosemary, crushed 1 tsp turmeric salt & pepper to taste
preheat oven to 425.
coat a breast in egg, then coat in breading mix. Lay in pan lightly sprayed in cooking spray. Repeat. Lightly spray the chicken once in the pan with cooking spray.
cook for about 30 minutes or till chicken has an internal temp of 180 if you have a thermometer.
Depending on size of chicken breast calories should be 200 or less per breast for crispy fried chicken!
note: you can actually do about 4 small breasts with this amount of coating & egg note: why oats and flax meal? because it's good for you and believe me it works great with the panko. You can just use all panko if you want. |

I finally sort of have a site for my Steampunk stuff up.

Obviously I am still working on it. There isn't that much there yet, and it will take a while to put what I consider to be my best pieces up, plus I need to go through my bookmarks for the links page. I also need to add a section or two, somehow, considering the menu is full. Meh. I am hoping to have it done-ish by the con but who knows. I have a lot of sewing and such to do still. |

| Wood & Brass Goggles |
[Oct. 6th, 2009|12:39 am] |
I was not satisfied with my husband's previous goggles which were just a mod I did of the ubiquitous Restoration Hardware German goggles so I made him a new pair. They are based off wood rings. The other materials used are metal and leather. The left eye has a lens from an old pair of glasses so other than needing to trigger the left he can actually see out of them.

[Oct. 5th, 2009|09:30 pm] |
I have two weeks to get everything finished for steamcon. The wings are done save for one detail that I am waiting to arrive in the mail. Blurry teaser pic with the wings detached for transport:

Better pictures once the last bit arrives.
Erick's new goggles are almost finished. I decided that his old ones which were mods of the German goggles from Restoration Hardware just weren't good enough anymore. The new ones are all wood, metal, leather and exclusive of decoration handmade.
The only other things I HAVE to do before the con are take in some clothes and sew one or two things for Erick. I'm sure another last min. project will sneak in there somehow but for now this look doable. It would be so nice to be done early with stuff so I can just kind of relax before the event.
That's totally going to happen. Yeah, and I'm a Chinese jet pilot. |

[Oct. 4th, 2009|12:11 am] |
Saturday I got up after 4 hours sleep because Erick suggested a trip to Urban Ore. I have been wanting to go, so we went. We found lots of various metal bits, a great lamp base, a sturdy leather case with brass hinges and best of all a couple wood gun stocks for building yet more guns... because it's fun. They won't be done for steamcon but should be finished by Maker Faire.
My wings are very nearly finished. I was short ONE FUCKING SCREW tonight. I will get more tomorrow. I also need to do some detail work on them before I can take pictures. Erick's goggles need to be assembled so I hope to wrap up both projects next week. I need to start sewing some stuff for Erick, and take in a few of my dresses. I am going to try to be ready to go the weekend before we leave because one whole day is going to be taken up by doing my hair.
I am bringing extra clothes to loan out. I have about decided NOT to bring the ball gown because there really isn't a good event to wear it to. I can save it for the Edwardian Ball. Taking that in is also going to be a major undertaking as it is a rather complicated garment.
The other issue is deciding which outfit(s) I can wear the wings with. I know they will look good with the leather outfit. Not sure about anything else. I will have to try stuff on obviously. |

| Xevian Industries presents the Xevian 9 - Elegant Assassin |
[Sep. 30th, 2009|05:34 pm] |

The Xevian 9 was designed to easily and completely break down into small discreet parts so that it might be brought into situations where weapons are prohibited. Easy and quick reassembly along with surprising power make this weapon an excellent choice for anyone needing stealth, power and aesthetic refinement. Powered by a rechargeable, and replaceable crystal the Xevian 9 shoots an accurate and deadly ray. Shown here with the optional backup crystal hanging from a chain that may be worn around the neck for convenience, a beautiful and practical way to ensure you are always ready no matter what the situation.
This gun is made entirely out of lamp and plumbing parts. It screws together and can be completely taken apart as nothing is glued or soldered. The original concept was to make a gun from found and unaltered parts and that is what it is. |

Who all is going to Steamcon? |
|
|
| |
[Sep. 21st, 2009|07:25 am] |
Working on projects for Steamcon. The big ones are:
Bat wings for me. They won't be articulated as I had originally planned, but I think they will look nifty. Slightly smaller than my demon wings and attached to a backpacky sort of thing I made out of the guts of a defunct grandfather clock and other bits.
New goggles for Erick. His old ones always got so many complements but they were just modded goggles from Restoration Hardware and that simply will not do. I am making some from scratch out of leather, brass and wood.
Then I have some sewing projects to do for Erick and lots of clothes to take in for both of us.
I have one month to get all of this done! |

[Sep. 20th, 2009|09:37 pm] |
I am really behind on reading posts. I suppose I could spend the next few hours getting caught up or I could do something, you know, productive like cleaning or crafting.
I think I shall do the latter.
If I missed something important, please let me know. |

Getting things ready for the con I am faced with a daunting problem, I have too many outfits! I need to figure out what all we are doing and when to plan out what to bring. 9 unique outfits are vying for space in my trunk. I really don't think I can wear that much.

| yup, more costume stuff |
[Aug. 25th, 2009|06:00 pm] |
Last night I made Erick's Inquisitor's staff. The 'star' is made entirely of brass and copper sheet then painted for a uniform colour, the spikes are mounted on brass filigree strip. The shaft is wood. The runes were taken from the Dark Heresy Inquisitor's Handbook.

I had a minor disaster while working on my backpack so as soon as I have strength back in my left hand I have to concentrate on getting the mockup done tonight. |

| almost... there... |
[Aug. 21st, 2009|06:09 pm] |

A few touchups and still need to do the backpack but almost there with the Sister of Battle. Still working on Erick's Inquisitor too. Right now I expect to be done, excepting the weapons, mid next week. Erick is building the weapons out of wood, then we are going to work on painting and making holsters. |
